Becky Mills

I started playing guitar at the age of nine-a desperate bid by my parents to wean me off the violin! I soon began to entertain the family with rousing renditions of Three Blind Mice and other such classics. I loved performing. At the age of thirteen, when the Three Blind Mice had lost its` appeal I decided to write my own songs. I wrote two or three but realised how hard it was and so gave songwriting a rest.

I went to Harrogate College when I was seventeen and to this day I have no idea why I decided to study drama. I suppose I didn`t realise that 'Luvvy, Darlings!' really existed but I soon discovered they did, and that they were all on my course! I didn't regret my time in Harrogate though because I met a lovely girl called Lucy Wallis who liked to sing as much as I did. We got our first 'gig' at The Rum Runner-billed as `The Becky & Lucy Show`. Unfortunately that name led half the male population of Harrogate to believe we were strippers! Anyway, after a few gigs we managed to make a name for ourselves as musicians, not strippers.

I returned to Ryedale in 1995 to sing with my fathers` band 'Mid Life Crisis' and had a great time but soon decided it was time to go my own way. I was introduced to Bassist, Ken Cook by the guitarist in my fathers` band. I wanted to record a few songs and Ken was recommended to record them for me.

A week after meeting Ken he asked if I would join a band with him which had been on the go for a while, when the singer left. They were quite desperate. We were together for a year and a bit but gradually Ken and I got more work as a Duo and as the band crumbled, Ken and I went from strength to strength. I began writing again and we made an album which included two of my previous teenage efforts. We called the album `Lazy Girl` after the first song on it.
